Throughout 2014, Urban Idea is undertaking a series of programs and events designed to highlight importance of the arts and culture to city building. Kicking off the year in January will be the Urban Idea Exchange, a one-day symposium to explore how Winnipeg might adopt a Creative Placemaking Strategy.Urban Idea believes that the arts are tied strongly to the notion of place, and that they can be strong drivers of social, economic, and physical development. The Urban Idea Exchange is a forum to talk about creative placemaking as concept, as policy, and as practice. Two keynote presentations will anchor the activities but participants will be fully engaged throughout the day by taking part in discussions, round tables, and more.
The UIX is aimed at anyone with an interest in art, design, and cities. Artists, architects, landscape architects, academics, students, graphic designers, businesspeople, and government officials are encouraged to attend. The event is free but registration is required.
